Obituary for Derek Kenji Koga

Deeply loved and missed by wife Kathy, his family, Chereen and Matt, Matt and Janelle, Kyle, his beloved grandchildren, Kai, Keira, Lily, and Brennan, mother Arlene, brother Steve (Jasmina), sister Erin (Jason), his nieces Chloe and Adrianna, grandmother Hisako, aunts and uncles, Judy and Mike, Emiko, Hiro and Pauline, Sharon and Greg, Darryl, Dan, in-laws Norm and Kay, Andy and Rose, Ian and Donna, Diane and many other family members including his work family at Ford Mountain Correctional Institute. Predeceased by Amanda and his dad Toby.

Derek loved his family, his friends and his job. He always tackled life with a sense of humour and he and Kathy shared a great love for each other and had many adventures together. He enjoyed travelling and had explored 18 different countries including doing missionary work in Costa Rica and Thailand. He was an excellent photographer and had some of his pictures displayed in the Abbotsford Art Gallery and featured in a magazine. He loved camping and sitting around a good campfire, hiking in the mountains, creating wooden bowls, doing wood carving, drawing, playing games and enjoyed a good dark beer. He was a foodie and an amazing cook. He loved his grandchildren so much and it was his greatest joy to spend time with them.

He loved well and was loved back by all. We are heartbroken but rejoice in the fact that he is in heaven and we will see him again one day. He will always be in our hearts.

Memorial Service to be held at a future date.
