IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, PLEASE DONATE TO THE BC CANCER IN THE NAME OF GURJEET SIVIA

Gurjeet (Jeet) Sivia passed away peacefully on May 11, 2021 at Ridge Meadows Hospital
surrounded by his loving children and wife of 30 years. He is the son of the late Pritam Singh
Sivia and the late Sham Kaur Sivia. He is survived by his three children, Perveen, Simrin and
Saajan, and his wife, Awneet Sivia, and a loving circle of family and friends.

Jeet gracefully and heroically fought cancer for the past 5 ½ years, doing it without complaint,
fear or self-doubt. He tirelessly battled for his family and friends because he knew how much he
was loved by all. Jeet had an infectious personality; one where his smile radiated warmth all
around, and his humour would leave everyone laughing for hours. He made those who knew
him feel instantly welcome, whether it was their first or 50 th time meeting him.

He was a fiercely devoted husband and father and was his entire family’s #1 cheerleader. If Jeet
had written this, he would be overjoyed to mention his pride in all his children. His eldest
daughter is an MD who recently started UBC residency, and his beautiful wife is a highly
accomplished PhD. Jeet’s resiliency throughout his battle with cancer was so inspiring to his
friends, family, and community, but even more inspiring was his selfless dedication to his
children’s dreams and aspirations. Nothing gave Jeet more joy than to share in his family’s
accomplishments.

Jeet accomplished a great deal academically, professionally, and personally in his 59 years.
Notably, he earned three degrees: a BSc from UBC, a BHINF from UVic, and a MPH from SFU. He
dedicated his career of nearly 25 years to population health research with the Fraser Health
Authority and continued to advocate for the South Asian community through disease
awareness and community outreach. Jeet was a dedicated soccer coach in Maple Ridge to his
two youngest children for years and was an avid golfer across BC. He was a member of Maple
Ridge Rotary, co-founded the Indo-Can Links golf tournament in Kamloops, and organized other
recreational golf tournaments simply in the spirit of bringing people together and spreading
positivity.

Jeet would wish to be remembered as the hero he was. We know he is surely busy practicing
his golf swing while sipping a margarita as he watches over his family and friends. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, PLEASE DIRECT ANY DONATIONS TO THE BC CANCER AGENCY, for their brave work helping those
fight cancer.

Respectfully,
Sivia and Virdi famiies
